About Mark L. Zukowski, MD
Dr. Zukowski is a native of Upstate NY and graduated with a B.S. degree in Biochemistry from Union College in Schenectady, NY. He graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL and completed his prerequisite 3 years of General Surgery training, followed by 3 years of Plastic Surgery training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. This is one of the top medical institutions in the world. He trained with the top cosmetic plastic surgeons in Chicago, the Nation, and Internationally. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Membership in these two groups means he is a TRUE Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. He went on to perform his military scholarship obligation to the US Navy achieving the rank of Commander(O5). He served as Plastic Surgery Department Head at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia, for 4.5 years which was one of the Navy’s three academic teaching hospitals. He ran one of the busiest plastic surgery departments in the military in the world. He has trained residents in the fields of Plastic Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, and ENT surgery in both the Civilian, Navy, Army and Air Force branches. He has an added depth of experience with male facial and body surgery that is unique to plastic surgeons worldwide. In 2019, Dr Zukowski celebrates his 35th year as a licensed Illinois physician. He has spent over 29 years since finishing training as a practicing plastic surgeon with a specific interest and expertise in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery of the face, breast, and body. This is evidenced by active membership in the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is Internationally recognized as the premier American Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in the world for facial bone and soft tissue feminization as well as breast and body feminization procedures in the transgender community. He has been working with the international gender community for 23 years and 65% to 80% of his practice in any given year involves face, breast and body feminization in male to female transitions as well as masculinization procedures in female to male transitions including groups such as gender variant, gender queer, and female impersonators. The remainder of the doctors practice is cometic surgery for cis female and male patients that is National, and International in scope with an emphasis on 21st century technology and natural results. Together with Dr. Frank Vicari, a nationally recognized, Chicago Pediatric Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Zukowski performed the worlds first series of Endoscopic Craniofacial Procedures in 1994/1995 on children with birth defects of their bony skull. He has lectured on both these topics and others, and performed live surgical endoscopic demonstrations throughout the United States, as well as internationally in Israel, Portugal, England, Scotland, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Australia, Germany, and the Cayman Islands. He has been a member of over 15 medical societies including the two most prestigious for a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon which are The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons which signifies added expertise in Facial Plastic Surgery.
