About Robert N. Young, MD

Dr. Robert N. Young, the founder of DrYoungForever, has been in private practice for over 20 years. Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Young has developed an outstanding reputation for excellence in South Central Texas. Dr. Young is one of the most recognized plastic surgeons in San Antonio, and is widely acknowledged as San Antonio’s Breast Doctor. A native of San Antonio, Dr. Young earned his undergraduate degree from the esteemed United States Military Academy at West Point. Dr. Young’s military service was excemplary. After graduating West Point in 1970, he completed Officers Basic Course in Air Defense Artillery, Airborne School and Ranger School. He served as Platoon Leader, Nike Hercules Missile Site at Homestead AFB, Florida until 1971. Dr. Young completed his medical degree at Tulane Medical School in 1975. Following Internship at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Dr. Young stayed on to complete his general surgery residency in 1980. Dr. Young completed his fellowship in plastic surgery at William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss, Texas in 1982, and returned to Fort Sam Houston to serve as a plastic surgeon and consultant to the Burn Unit at Brooke Army Medical Center. There, Dr. Young went on to become the Chief of Plastic Surgery, where he performed all types of major reconstructive procedures, until he retired from the military in 1990. At that time, Dr. Young began his private practice in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Young’s surgical procedures are performed in his own brand new, advanced Surgery Center. The center provides cost effectiveness for the patient, while allowing total discretion and comfort. Dr. Robert N. Young has been a leader in breast surgery, being one of the first in the area to utilize minimally invasive surgical procedures, including endoscopic, to reduce scarring, reduce post-surgical pain, and give the best aesthetic results possible. Because of his outstanding reputation, Dr. Young was one of a select national group of prominent surgeons selected by Mentor, manufacturer of breast implants, to perform surgeries with silicone implants for a nationwide study of the safety of silicone during the nearly 15 year ban of silicone implants. His participation has been instrumental in the development of the newer style implants which increase safety for patients. Dr. Young offers patients their choice of saline or silicone implants, in a variety of sizes, shapes and profiles to suite most body types and personal preferences. Did you know that any physician who chooses to perform cosmetic surgery can call themselves a “plastic surgeon”, even if they are not trained specifically in plastic surgery techniques or have experience with performing these procedures! It’s important to research your surgeon’s experience, training and licensure. Obtaining a medical license to diagnose and treat patients means a physician meets a minimum level of competency requirements, but it is not specific to any one specialty. Board Certification demonstrates a physician’s level of expertise in their specialty. Board certification is the “Gold Standard” because the physician has demonstrated exceptional knowledge, experience and skills to provide quality healthcare with superior outcomes within their specific specialty. Dr. Young has attended the very best in continuing education courses throughout hismilitary career for reconstructive plastic surgery, the treatment of burns, wound healing and surgical wound repairs, as well as trauma and emergency surgeries. In the subsequent 20 years performing Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, Dr. Young has continued his pursuit of excellence through learning. He actively participates in various conferences by the societies he holds membership in such as the ASAPS and ASPS, and with other aesthetic groups which host specialty conferences for facial surgeries, cosmetic surgeries, and skin care. He also participates in many on-line educational webinars. As a recognized expert, Dr. Young is often sought after by educational providers and manufacturers. Since it’s inception, Dr. Young has been a Medical Advisor and contributor to MJD Patient Communications, who publish materials to educate and inform plastic surgery patients. His patient before-after photos have been selected to appear on brochures and other materials they produce.
