About Mark A. Kuriata, DO

Dr. Kuriata brings highly specialized knowledge in medical, surgical, and cosmetic skin care to Southwestern Michigan. Having been born and raised in nearby Dowagiac, Michigan, Dr. Kuriata was eager to serve his home community, and after completing his dermatology residency in Kirksville, Missouri in 1999, Dr. Kuriata came to St. Joseph, Michigan to begin work as a dermatologist, starting Advanced Dermatology. Dr. Kuriata has added qualifications from the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology in Mohs Micrographic Surgery for the treatment of skin cancers. By utilizing this technique, Dr. Kuriata is able to effectively remove skin cancers with a low rate of recurrence, and is skillfully trained in minimizing the amount of scarring that results from this type of surgery. In May 2014, Dr. Kuriata was awarded the Clarence Beckwith Distinguished Alumni Award from Lake Michigan College. Dr. Kuriata's career towards becoming a Doctor started when he attended Lake Michigan College, earning his Associate's Degree of Applied Science in 1986. Recently, Dr. Kuriata was also named a ""Fellow of Distinction,"" by the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology for his professional and educational contributions to the field of dermatology. In addition to working as the primary dermatologist at his practice, Dr. Kuriata also oversees the Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine/Lakeland Regional Healthcare Dermatology Residency Program. Through this program Dr. Kuriata trains new doctors in the specialty of Dermatology. In his spare time, Dr. Kuriata enjoys spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, as well as fishing, watching movies, and playing the drums.
