About Ethan E. Larson, MD

A native of Tucson, Dr. Larson attended the University of Arizona, graduating summa cum laude with degrees in both microbiology and psychology. He was the senior student of the year in the college of microbiology and a NASA space grant research fellow. He attended the University of Arizona medical school as a Dean’s Scholar, graduating AOA. Dr. Larson’s internship and residency in Plastic Surgery were completed in Washington, DC at Georgetown University and its affiliated hospitals under the mentorship of famous breast reconstructive surgeons Dr. Scott Spear and Maurice Nahabedian. He went on to receive further training in microsurgery and complex oncologic defect reconstruction under the world famous microsurgeon Peter Neligan at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. Dr. Larson is interested and trained in all aspects of plastic surgery. While his primary focus is on reconstruction of traumatic, oncologic or surgical defects, he also offers breast reduction, liposuction, lipedema treatment, body contouring, gender affirmation surgery and cosmetic surgery. His additional training and expertise also allow him to offer microsurgical reconstructive treatment options to patients. Often these surgeries are the final option in an otherwise unsalvageable reconstruction. Similarly, microsurgery can also provide the added benefit of reducing the morbidity in reconstructions that might have previously required the sacrifice of muscle or additional tissue. Dr. Larson has a special interest in breast augmentation and breast reconstruction following mastectomy. He is proud to be one of the few surgeons in Southern Arizona to offer microsurgical breast reconstruction with free DIEP flaps. This surgery allows for breast reconstruction with a patient’s own tissue while preserving the muscular integrity of the abdominal wall. Dr. Larson has been a champion of transgender surgery and treats patients from across Arizona who come to him. Widely considered, in the community, to be one of the top transgender surgeon Arizona has to offer. Dr. Larson believes strongly in compassionate care. He has received the Arnold P. Gold foundation award for compassion in medicine. He is actively pursuing research projects on a number of topics. He has served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at the University of Arizona and as an Assistant Professor at the College of Medicine he has taught hundreds of students and residents. His offices are located in the Institute Of Plastic Surgery building, just minutes outside of downtown Tucson.
